Nishijin Textile Convention” and “Exhibition of Nishijin Textile Works for New Market Development” in Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Nishijin Textile Industry Association 2023
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Nishijin Textile Industry Association.
The Nishijin Textile Association will hold an event to celebrate its 50th anniversary, with the aim of enabling more people to become familiar with the traditional techniques and beauty of Nishijin textiles and to contribute to the creation of a sustainable production area for the future, regional cooperation, and the improvement of the local economy.
In this milestone Nishijin brocade convention, our company is exhibiting “Zenjinko Nishijin brocade gold brocade with pearl powder and silver foil” in the Nishijin brocade section.

- Reproduction of the Sorahiki loom A demonstration of the “Sorahiki” loom, which was restored about 50 years ago, will be held for a limited period of time following last year’s demonstration.
- Nishijin Textile Archives Special Exhibition “Nishijin Textiles in Step with the Times”
- From the collection of the Nishijin Textile Museum, this exhibition introduces mainly textiles from the Meiji period and from around 1973, 50 years ago. Also on display are pasted folding screens.
- Demonstration of Traditional Crafts “Kyoto Takumi Fureai Project
- Visitors can see up-close demonstrations by craftsmen engaged in traditional weaving and dyeing in Kyoto, including Nishijin brocade.
- Nishijin Machiaraku (Nishijin Town Walk)” Open Studio Development
- Weavers in the Nishijin area will hold open workshops and workshops to show visitors firsthand how wonderful Nishijin textiles are. In addition, university students will have the opportunity to experience wearing a kimono and tour the workshops.

- Nishijin textiles have a history of over 1,000 years since the Heian period. In Kyoto, the culture of kimono is still deeply rooted. Nishijin, a leader in kimono culture, is the largest kimono industry in Japan. Nishijin weavers who carry on this tradition will open their workshops to the public in conjunction with the Nishijin Textile Convention. A treasure hunt-like mechanism is also available!
