About Us

Greetings from the President

Okamoto Orimono Co., Ltd. began in the Meiji era (early 1900s) when my great-grandfather started weaving Nishijin textiles as a hand weaver in a corner of Nishijin.

I grew up amidst the sounds of the machines, the winding threads, and the hustle and bustle of the weavers in their residence and workshop.

The atmosphere of this Nishijin weaving business is my origin and my life.

In four generations and over 100 years, we have passed on our techniques and experience with Nishijin brocade. We continue to weave grand, luxurious textiles for Japanese shrines and temples, and these days we are promoting Nishijin brocade globally through products such as apparel and interiors.

Okamoto Orimono Co., Ltd. does not confine itself to the framework of traditional crafts; we create silks for the here and now.

While embodying the historic culture of Nishijin, Kyoto, we will look to the future and provide innovative silks that inspire those who see them and feel them.
