Nishijin Okamoto is honoured to once again exhibit at Beyond Craft Japan 2025, an exceptional event that attracts leading experts in architecture and interior design, as well as sophisticated consumers with refined taste.

With the artistry of Nishijin-ori Kinran brocade showcased globally, this marks our second consecutive year participating in the exhibition. This year, we proudly present an enriched concept alongside exciting new initiatives to captivate our audience.

What is ‘Beyond Craft Japan’?

“Beyond Craft Japan” is a special exhibition that explores the fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and design. It highlights Japan’s unique aesthetic sense, bridging tradition and modernity, and serves as a platform for international cultural exchange.

This year’s exhibition will feature the following five themes:

1. Japan Brand × Craft

Creating new value through collaborations between Japanese traditional craftsmanship and renowned brands.

2. Japan CMF LAB

A unique design lab focused on the colours and materials distinctive to Japan.

3. Beyond Craft Japan POP UP Shop / Café

Experience Japanese culture through all five senses with unique pop-up exhibitions and cafes.

4. Japan Traditional Craft

An initiative to evolve traditional craftsmanship into new forms of creativity.

5. Japan Contemporary Design

A fusion of innovative brands by Japanese designers and contemporary craftsmanship.

This exhibition aims to foster cultural exchange between Japan and China, creating new possibilities.

Nishijin Okamoto Exhibit – Inherited Tradition and Evolution into the Future

This marks the second appearance for Nishijin Okamoto. Once again, we will be showcasing Nishijin-ori Kinran Brocade, woven with the mastery of traditional techniques.

Nishijin-ori has its origins in Chinese weaving methods, which were introduced to Japan and have since evolved into a uniquely refined craft over centuries. Beyond Craft Japan provides an opportunity to revisit this traditional art from an international perspective, reaffirming the deep cultural connections between Japan and China.

This Year’s Exhibition Concept

This year, we are not only showcasing traditional techniques but also exploring the potential of Nishijin-ori for the future by blending it with contemporary design. Through pieces crafted with innovative materials and distinctive colour palettes, we aim to present a fresh wave of creativity that resonates with the spirit of our times.
