Interior Tea Box and Nishijin-ori Collaboration: Okura China "Umaku Yuku"

Interior Chabako and Nishijin-ori Collaboration: OKURA ART CHINA, INC., “Umaku Yuku”

OKURA ART CHINA, INC., “Umaku Yuku”

The charming and whimsical carousel illustration that symbolizes OKURA ART CHINA, INC., featured on their “Umaku Yuku” cup and saucer set, warms the heart. The carousel has nine horses, and the phrase “Uma Ku Yuku” (馬九行く) is a play on words that means “things will go well.”

Inspired by the hope that many things will go well and be enjoyable, we have recreated this design using Nishijin brocade.

The design of “Umaku Yuku” has been applied to an Interior Chabako, woven as an original fabric.

This time, Interior Chabako will be displaying and selling this creation at the Hanabana Festival at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi.

Guided by the timeless philosophy of OKURA ART CHINA, INC., “Better than the Best,” this collaboration between the tea box and OKURA ART CHINA, INC. was born.

The already excellent product is given a new angle, creating an indescribable sense of comfort.

The “Umaku Yuku Carousel,” the best-selling cup and saucer set by OKURA ART CHINA, INC., is part of the “Umaku Yuku Tea Box,” which contains two sets of this cup and saucer. The carousel has nine horses, and the phrase “Uma Ku Yuku” (馬九行く) is a play on words that means “things will go well.” It features playful wordplay, auspicious motifs, and embodies the wish for things to go well.

The tea box itself features the same “Umaku Yuku” pattern as the cup and saucer, expressed in silk fabric and Nishijin-ori. It serves as both a storage box and a display box.

The Nishijin-ori was crafted by “Nishijin Okamoto,” a company that has provided gold brocade to shrines and temples across Japan for four generations. They are a weaving company that creates products with traditional techniques while looking towards the future.

The “Umaku Yuku Tea Box,” a collaboration of top-notch traditional craftsmanship, exudes elegance and joy, making it a special piece that brightens up any living space.

Umaku Yuku Nishijin-ori Silk Fabric

Here are the photos of the “Umaku Yuku” silk fabric.

We deconstructed the shape of the tea box on a blueprint, designed it accordingly, and wove the Nishijin-ori in two parts to match the design.

Nishijin is renowned as a weaving area famous for its high-quality textiles produced in various types and small lots.

We take great care to ensure customer satisfaction by repeatedly creating samples and holding consultations to weave a single textile.

We look forward to receiving your custom orders for Nishijin-ori.
