“Nishijin kinran brocade with HIKIBAKU pearl powder and silver foil”
We have carefully preserved the traditional ‘Hikifoil’ weaving technique, which uses flat, short threads of Japanese paper, lacquer and real gold leaf, since our establishment, and weave silk fabrics with ‘Honkin Hikifoil’ or ‘Honkin Pattern Foil’.
Hikifoil is a technique that came from China, but is now woven only in Nishijin and parts of Tango, and is a rare textile with depth and taste.
We believe that to preserve the material ‘foil thread’, our techniques and traditions, we need to make people aware of the ‘Hikifoil’ weaving technique and find new demand for it, so that ‘Hikifoil’ can be passed on to the next generation.
